About

Michelle Chen works and plays in New York City. She's been a Fulbright research fellow, zine publisher and member of the grassroots news collective The NewStandard. These days, when she's not trying to be a distracted academic at the City University of New York Graduate Center, she finds real-world applications for her self-righteousness by writing on labor, gender, and human rights issues. She contributes to the Working In These Times blog as a contributing editor at In These Times. She also serves as editor of CultureStrike, a project that merges pro-immigrant activism and the arts. She co-produces the community radio program Asia Pacific Forum on Pacifica's WBAI.

Her other work has appeared in print and online in Al Jazeera America, The Guardian, The American ProspectMs. MagazineThe NationColorLines.com, Alternet.org, The Progressive, On The Issues, Inter Press Service, Air America, Extra!, Women's International Perspective, Common Dreams, The IndyPendent, RH Reality Check, The Albany Times-Union, The News & Observer, The Plain Dealer, The Sacramento Bee, The South China Morning Post, Newsday, City Limits and Gotham Gazette. She's also been spotted washing dishes at an underground downtown jazz club and painting houses in an Egyptian fishing village.
